You can't always be at your computer when it needs to be turned off (for example, because you're performing multiple tasks within it), so you have no choice but to leave it on. Although there is another alternative: PC-Off.

PC-Off allows you to schedule and leave the computer to shut off automatically at a specified time. It can also be configured to simply restart or log out at that time. It has a very interesting option, called "Off Fast", which forces all applications off the system without waiting for an answer.

Another PC-Off option is that it starts with Windows, so it will always be active and can turn off at a specified time every day. PC-Off is totally free.
